Four of Our AIA Award-Winning Projects
We believe the best architecture reflects both the people it serves and the place it’s rooted in. Over the years, we’ve been honored to receive several awards from the American Institute of Architects—each recognizing our commitment to intentional, place-based design.
Here’s a look at four of those AIA-recognized projects—each different in size and scope, but united by one thing: they feel like they belong.

The Gibson | Downtown Beaufort, SC
Designed for a couple relocating from New York to Beaufort’s historic district, The Gibson is a timeless home that respects its surroundings without blending in too quietly. With a thoughtful blend of painted brick and siding, porches that extend the living space, and interiors designed for modern living, the home strikes a balance between tradition and personality.

It was awarded an AIA Honor Award for its contextual elegance and adaptability. And today, The Gibson is available as a stock plan—proof that a personal home can inspire many.

The Anchorage | Bay Street, Beaufort, SC
One of Beaufort’s most iconic tabby concrete structures, The Anchorage began as a private residence in 1776 and later served as an office building. After sitting vacant for years, it was brought back to life in 2013 when we were hired to convert it into a bed and breakfast.

We added three suites in the formerly underused basement, reimagined the upper floors with ten more, and introduced a small guest cottage and accessible courtyard. The project received an AIA Honor Award for its respectful, adaptive reuse of a historic landmark.

Overlook Pavilion at Battery Point | Beaufort, SC
In 2006, we were honored to take part in the design, planning, and architectural standards for the Overlook Pavilion in Battery Point—a neighborhood amenity space designed for gatherings, views, and connection.

This modest structure includes a screened pavilion, tabby fire pit, restrooms, and accessible walkways—all designed to feel open, welcoming, and rooted in the Lowcountry. It was recognized with an AIA award for its thoughtful integration of landscape, architecture, and community function.

Shell Point Quarters | Beaufort, SC
Our Shell Point Quarters plan was recognized by our local AIA chapter for their innovative approach to small-scale development. Each home ranges from 700 to 1,100 square feet and is carefully placed to promote both privacy and community.

Designed around shared greens, walkways, and fire pits, the cottages preserve connectivity while offering affordability and architectural quality. Built with both developers and future residents in mind, they serve as a replicable model for compact, connected living that doesn’t compromise on design.
Why It Matters
Each of these projects—whether a custom home, restored historic structure, neighborhood amenity, or compact cottage—demonstrates our core belief: design should serve, inspire, and endure.
We’re grateful for the recognition from the American Institute of Architects, and even more so for the chance to continue building meaningful, timeless places across the Lowcountry and beyond. These AIA Award-Winning Projects continue to inspire us.
