Designing a New Home That Feels Right at Home
Designing a new home in a historic district is never a copy-and-paste process. It requires restraint, respect, and a strong sense of place—exactly the kind of challenge our team loves. So when a couple relocating from New York came to us with a vision for their future home in downtown Beaufort, South Carolina, we knew it had to be something special.

The result was The Gibson, a custom home that earned a Design Honor Award from the Hilton Head Island chapter of the American Institute of Architects (AIA HHI). And we couldn’t be prouder.
The couple wanted a home that felt fresh and livable, but also timeless—something that honored the surrounding neighborhood’s architectural charm without feeling like a replica. The exterior features a refined combination of painted brick and siding, giving the home a classic presence on the street. The layout orients all major living spaces toward a private interior courtyard, offering privacy, natural light, and a quiet retreat right in the heart of town.

Inside, an open modern floor plan blends seamlessly with traditional elements—bringing together clean lines, generous natural light, and subtle architectural details. Including the finished attic, the home offers 3,796 square feet of well-balanced, intentional design.
This award-winning custom home project is everything we love about residential architecture: a unique site, a clear vision, and clients who trusted us to create something that was both deeply personal and perfectly contextual. The recognition from AIA HHI is a meaningful nod to the work—and to the idea that even in the most historically significant places, there’s room for new stories to be written.
